Jean-Philippe Smeets is a Partner in the Corporate M&A team at Ashurst LLP – Luxembourg Branch, with over two decades of experience advising on complex business law matters.
His practice spans the full spectrum of M&A transactions—both buy- and sell-side—from initial structuring and negotiation to closing, as well as private equity investments and general corporate governance. Jean-Philippe counsels a diverse client base, including multinational corporations, listed entities, and private investors, delivering strategic legal solutions across jurisdictions.
Recognised by Chambers Global as a Foreign Expert for both the Luxembourg and Belgian markets, Jean-Philippe also contributes to the development of Luxembourg’s legal ecosystem through his involvement in various professional associations. He currently serves notably as co-chair of the LPEA M&A Club.
Before relocating to Luxembourg, Jean-Philippe spent 15 years practicing corporate and M&A law in Belgium at leading international and independent firms, building a strong cross-border perspective that continues to inform his practice today.
